Trails: Enjoy the easy to intermidiate 1.4 mile (one-way) hiking trail along the South Fork of the Tuolumne River into the Yosemite Wilderness Area to Carlon Falls. Have a picnic and cool off with a refreshing swim.
This trail begins on the Stanislaus National Forest at the Carlon Day Use Area off of Evergreen Rd. Since the trail enters the Yosemite Wilderness Area, biking and dogs are not allowed.
Hike the many well-marked trails and see spectacular vistas, unique geological formations, wild flowers, sparkling lakes, and countless miles of bicycle Tuolumne County streams and rivers. Great bike trails crisscross Tuolumne County from Strawberry and Lyons Dam to New Melones Lake to Yosemite National Park. Two-hour, four-hour, and all-day rides are available at the stables in Yosemite Valley, Wawona, and Tuolumne Meadows. Children must be at least 7 years old and 44″ tall. Maximum weight is 225 lbs.
For a more thorough back country experience, join one of this company’s organized saddle trips — with mules. 4-6 day treks leave from Tuolumne Stables and are led by experienced guide/packers who handle the details. They pack all the gear, feed and care for the stock and provide park pointers and lore along the way.
The maximum weight limit is 225 pounds per saddle (including rider). Personal necessities (15 pound limit per person) are carried on a pack mule. These trips are usually available July-September when weather and trail conditions permit.
